Watch the video at home (it's on YouTube) about Digital Dossier (Footprint)
Have you given much thought about the tracks you are leaving and what impact those tracks may have on your life? Do you know 40 % of employers check social site such as Facebook before hiring? What are your thoughts on this? Are there ways you can limit or protect yourself without becoming a hermit?
When I’m online I usually do give much thought on what I’m doing and saying. I know that this could affect my future job and social status online. I did not know that 40% of employers are checked out on social websites before hired. In my opinion many people act differently online then they would in the real world. They should not be judged by their online character but on who they are in the working environment. Some precautions we could take without becoming a hermit would be to 1. Watch your language. There are always people older and more sophisticated or younger and less experienced that you. 2. Don’t do anything you wouldn’t want people to know about. Once it’s on the internet, it’s always going to be there.
ReplyDeleteI have never given much thought to the tracks I leave on the internet, although I don’t these tracks would much impact on my life. Yes, I did know that some employers checked face book and other sites before hiring. I think that this could sometimes be necessary for a higher class job, but for something like working at a fast food place I don’t really think it’s that big of a deal. You can protect yourself by watching what you post on face book or on the internet, think about something before you post it. Maybe ask yourself could this post hurt my career or life in any way in the future.
ReplyDeleteI dont think em like many others really think about what we are saying until its already out there. I had no idea that it affected us in the future. I thought that is you did something or said something it would go way but as I have come to learn that its not gone or forgotten its just part of the past. If i were to work at a fast food restuarant I dont think what I say online willl effect it much but if I have a job that has to deal with law or medication people can google me or look me up on facebook. I dont think that we can portect ourselves from people looking us up because we have technology which the world revolves around.
ReplyDeleteI'm always aware of what I say on the Internet. My Facebook status' can never be explicit because my parents and family check mine and make sure everything is at a G level. Plus my Dad is always telling me of how what I say on the Internet can affect my life and career someday, so I know what and what not to say online.
ReplyDeleteWhen I am on the internet I don't really give any thought in what I am doing and how these tracks could impact my life. I am very careful on what I say because I know there are bad people out there and it could impact on my life. I did not know that 40% of employers check social sites such as Face book before hiring you. I think that checking people’s face book is a good thing sometimes, especially when it is a higher glass job I think that is necessary. I think this is a good idea. You could protect yourself online by watching what you say to other people online, Use good vocabulary when you are talking to someone, Watch what kinds of pictures you put on face book and what you post because this may affect your life when you are trying to get a job in the future.

honestly no i dont often think what im righting before i put it online i mean, most the time i do cause my mom sees what i put but sometimes in a private message i will blabber my mouth more then i should and dont take in consideration thinking will anyoene else see this. Yes, i did, my mom i constintly telling me watch what i do onliine this and that, she always tells me i wont get a good job or any job at that if i ut somthing wrong like the wrong kind of photo for exsampple, she also tells me its becouise most poeple before hiring someone check myspace, facebook, and other social networks. I think it is good, watching language, postures, and many ohtehr thing online can help your futer where ever you choose to lead you futer. Yes there are many ways you can protect yourself online, first you cluld watch how you talk, dont post photos that are reaveiling, and other things to.
ReplyDeletePrior to watching this video, I already knew that everything you post on the Internet never really “disappears”, and I always mind what I say on the internet, because I never really know who could be watching me. I knew that many employers check social networking websites such as Facebook; I did not know the percentage of employers, of course, but I certainly knew that my marks made online could someday affect my future career. It frightens me a bit to think that one mistake made online could come back to haunt your future. Therefore, we, as future job hunters in an unstable economy, must take precautions in what we say and do over the Internet. Many people believe that you should not say anything online that you would not say in person, but in my opinion, do not say anything online that you would not say at a job interview. I would especially watch my spelling and grammar, using bad English online can make you look unprofessional.
ReplyDeleteDigital Footprint - you are right about not having control on weather or not people search for you but you do have control over what you post on the Internet. Why do employers look to see what you are posting? To get an insite on who you really are. It costs a lot of money to train new employees and after interviewing employers may have to choose between 2 or 3 great canidates. It looks like what they find on social sites may be the final decision maker. As long as you are aware that employers look you should be thoughtful about what you post. Is it fair? Well it depends on which side of the fense you are sitting on. Employers say YES.
ReplyDeleteMy mother has always told me that what you say online can never be taken back so I always watch what I say online because it could effect a person's life drastically. I had no idea however, that 40% of work employers look at people's facebooks and social networking tools. It makes me think about what would happen to somebody that put bad things on their facebook and need a job. You can protect yourself by not spending to much time on the internet and thinking twice before you say something online.
ReplyDeleteI dont really think about the tracks in leaving and how they may impact my life. I know that once you say something online you can never take it back, thats why ive been smart on the internet. I did not know that 40% of work employers looked on people social network sites such as Facebook. That makes me think about other peoples facebook and what they say on there could actually impact their ability to get a job later on. There are ways to protect yourself. For example dont say something that you wouldnt say in person. Before you post make sure you think twice.
ReplyDeleteI think that this is a little wierd. Should they be able to keep track of everything we have done or every site we visited? If someone got access of this, it would be a major invasion of privacy. To protect myself, I would follow the rules of nettiquette, watch what I say, and go on clean websites.
ReplyDeleteBefore I saw this i knew that jobs can and do look at personal networking pages to see more about you. Things such as what you are doing in photographs and the spelling and grammar you use on the site may make you look unprofessional. So to prevent this from happening I would watch my spelling and grammar, avoid uploading photos that make me look bad, and make all my accounts private to prevent this as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm online I don't really give it much thought and yet I'm still careful of what I put online or search because something can come back to you almost always..... some way you can protect you twelfth I think is probably watch what you post and search and if your not sure ask yourbself would you want to be known for this if. People saw this..... by the way very interesting video
ReplyDeleteSam . . . don't see your post
