Digital Footprint

Watch the video at home (it's on YouTube) about Digital Dossier (Footprint)
Have you given much thought about the tracks you are leaving and what impact those tracks may have on your life?  Do you know 40 % of employers check social site such as Facebook before hiring?  What are your thoughts on this?  Are there ways you can limit or protect yourself without becoming a hermit?

Blabberize

Thought you might enjoy trying another site with talking figures.  Go the http://blabberize.com/ .  Watch the example then have fun making one.  Post on your blog by embedding the code on your post.http://blabberize.com/

Posting Podcast to your blog

Now that you have experienced creating your MP3 files using Audacity, you're ready to publish it on the web. There are many sites that offer free Podcasting - I used http://www.podbean.com/
    1. You need to sign up and upload your MP3 file.
    2. Once your MP3 file is uploaded, you need to get the embedded code needed to copy on your blog.  Once you have copied the embeded code you are well on your way. (on the view page - click "Embeddable Player" this will take you to the embed code you need to copy)
    3. Go to your blog.  Go to your "design tab", Select "add a Gadget".
    4. Once the Gadget is added, you paste the embedded code.
    5. Save and view.

ID Theft

Identity Theft

Avatar

Get a Voki now!

Meet my new Voki, Roberta . . . She's wondering if blondes really do have more fun.
Each of you will be creating your own Avatar.  Before creating your Avatar you need to decide what your Advatar will say and record the voice.  It should be no less than 20 seconds long.  It could be a greeting, a famous quote, or rooting on your beloved team.

To record voice - you'll need a microphone and script, what you want to say.  Keep in mind the quality of your voice when recording.  Your voice should sound natural, like you would really talk.  Your voice should not sound like you are reading from a script - it should be animated, having some inflection.

When your script is ready - practice out loud 2 or 3 times before recording.  When you have practiced and you are ready to begin follow the following steps:
1.  Plug microphone in
2. With your mouse, select start / accessories / entertainment / sound recording
3. Select red button to record
4. play back, if you like it, save it to your P drive under project folder
5.  If you don't like it, select file new, don't save, and record again.
6.  Once your recording is completed and you have saved it to your P drive, you are ready to make your Voki Advatar

Go to http://www.voki.com/, sign up and have fun creating your Advatar.

This week's Blog assignment - due by Friday, October 22.  On this blog discuss your experience in creating your Advatar.  Was it fun?  What did you have trouble with?  How could this Advatar be used?

On your Blog - using the Edit HTML tab - post your Advatar.

YouTube Tutorial

YouTube is a fun site where you can find tutorials for a variety of subjects.  With anything, you have to be careful and use common sense.  If you come across something that is inappropriate, don't watch it or share it with others.  Here's an example of a video I found interesting.  It's about 3 minutes long.  You'll need a pencil and piece of paper.  Check it out and try your hand at drawing.  When you're finished - write your thoughts about your experience on my blog.  Have fun.

Books or Travel - what is you choice?

This week’s blog you have a choice of two topics.

First choice, travel: Write about a place you have visited and let us know how you feel about that particular place. Who did you go with and what made it so special for you. Minimum 4 to 6 sentences.

Second choice, books: Many of you love to read. Write a review of a book you have read recently – within the last year. Give a short synopsis (summary). What did you like about the book, what did you dislike about the book. Who were the main characters? Did you identify with any of the character? If so, why?

Introduction

We’ll be using this site for teacher-to-student communication as well as student-to-student communication. My goal is to do at least one blog post per week. Generally I will post on Monday and you have until Friday to complete the weekly blog by leaving a comment. Many of you may have your own personal blogs on MySpace or similar sites. For those of you who have never used a blog, this will give you some experience.

Before we get started we’ll have to set some ground rules. First of all, all postings to this site must use school appropriate language. When you post, write in complete sentences. Key your first initial and last name at the end of your post so I know who posted it (all posts are worth points). When commenting on another student’s post, keep your comments non-personal. You can agree or disagree with a comment but refrain from sarcasm and/or put-downs. State your position on the issue at hand and why you feel that way.

Your first assignment: Tell me a little about yourself. Include information on your family, friends and things you enjoy doing. Have you ever blogged before?
